Bert L. Sloas of Oak Creek passed away in the Routt Memorial Hospital in Steamboat Springs on May 28, 1981 at the age of 84. Services were held Monday June 1 at 11 a.m. at graveside in the Oak Creek Cemetery. Officiating was Bill Hammons. Pallbearers included Joe Petranovich. Hammons, Elmer Anderson, Paul Turon, Spiro Callas and Bob Gilbert.
Born in Menafee County, Kentucky on Jan. 23, 1897 he was the son of James Monroe and Mary Susan Sparks Sloas. He came to Routt County in 1914 and was a coal miner until his retirement. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of letter Day Saints. Surviving him are three sisters, Gladys Hall and Edrie Hart, both of Denver and Verna Moriates of Oak Creek.
