(article from the Pella Saturday Advertiser Dec 26, 1896)
George Golightly, of Carbonado, was murdered about two miles east of Oskaloosa a few nights ago. Two couples in a double seated buggy met Golightly on the highway and both shot at him. One ball pierced his brain and he died instantly. A few hours later George Nettlefield, a young farmer of Wayland, and C. C. Ernest, a young druggist of the same place; drove into Oskaloosa and were arrested. They confessed that they had had trouble with Golightly and had fired at the ground as he passed, but did not mean to and did not know that they had killed him. Nettlefield did the shooting. Both were jailed.
