O.L. Crandall's Mother Passes Away At Her Home in Nora Springs
Sally Maria Miller was born 02 Jam 1910 near Auburn, Cayuga County, New York.
She died at the home of her daughter Mrs. J.W. Cattron at Nora Spring on 07 Oct 1909.
Her age was 99 years, 9 months, and 5 days.
As a child she moved to Ontario County, New York with her parents.
There she was married to John Bordeaux Crandall on 11 May 1836.
They had 4 children: sons Bradford M. and Orson L, and twin daughters Emily M. and Emma A.
They came to Iowa in 1854 hoping the western climate would benefit her husband.
They settled in Edgewood, then known as Yankee Settlement.
Her husband died in January 1873. After that she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Cattron, most of the time at Lawler, Iowa, but for the last nine years in Nora Springs.
She was a member of the M.E. Church.
In August 1902 she sufferered an illness that confined her to bed for the rest of her life. However, her mental facilities stayed very sharp and she was an avid reader of large print items.
She was survived by 2 children: Mrs. Cattron and O.L. Crandall; Emma and Bradford preceded her.
She was also survived by a niece Mrs. P.G. Abbot, who had lived with her from childhood.
She was also survived by 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
A short service was conducted at her daughter's home and the her remains were taken to Edgewood for interment beside her husband.
Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Cattron of Nora Springs and Mrs. P.G. Abbott of Alpha accompanied the body to Edgewood. The son, Mr. Crandall of Greene was unable to go to Edgewood on account of his wife's illness.
