She was born in Prim Springs, Tennessee to the late Joe and Emma Virginia Worley and was the widow of the late Calvin L. Gutman. Mrs. Gutman was a retired registered nurse and later in her life, she became an accomplished professional artist and was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, Elizabeth City, NC. She and her husband lived in Jacksonville, Florida for over 50 years before coming to Elizabeth City.
Mrs. Gutman is survived by one son, Calvin Lee Gutman, Jr. of Elizabeth City, two grandchildren, Christopher Cohoon of Raleigh, NC and Beth Paulin of Chicago, IL; a great grandson, Aaron Lee Cohoon of Raleigh, NC. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 9, 2003, at 11:00am in the Christ Episcopal Church by Father Jim McGee. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Chesapeake, VA. The family will receive friends and relatives at Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, NC, Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30pm and at other times at the sons residence.
