"John Lewis", as he was called, is the son of John L Watkins and Pheriba Jane Talley. He was born in Rabun county, GA and is a brother to Claire, William Henry, Evin Crawford, Sarah Elizabeth, Margaret Amanda, Nancy Rosetta, John M, Ruth Emaline, Isaac Nathanial Monteville, Mallie Louvenia, Rachel Malinda, Julia, Isabella Belzora, Joseph George Walker and Pheriba Jane Watkins. John Lewis is the 8th of these 16 children.

He was married and divorced.

A family report of his admission is found on Ancestry.com by gagranny and is as follows: The oral family story of John Lewis ( John Lewis was always called by his double name)is that he had gone to the post office for the mail. Upon his return to the home of his mother, he stated: "It's time for me to go back to the hospital." This was the Broughton Mental Hospital at Morganton, NC, Burke County. John Lewis had some mild mental disorder. He had been to this hospital on a previous occasion. It is not known how much time he had spent at this hospital, nor when his previous visit had been. It is not known his method of transportation to reach the hospital.The hospital records show that John Lewis was DOA on 31 January 1925. His is buried in the hospital cemetery at row 25, grave 35. His patient number at the hospital was 209344.
