Mrs. Thelma Smith Agan, age 88, of 4 Cardinal Drive, West Rome, died Wednesday evening at a Rome health care center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Agan was born May 29, 1912, in Floyd County, GA, daughter of the late Hugh Smith and Leila Oakes Smith. She had been a lifelong residence of Floyd County and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors includes four sons, Charles Agan of Rome, Billy Agan of Leesburg, AL, Gene Agan of Centre, AL, and Wesley Agan of Summerville, GA; one brother, Paul "Bud" Smith of Rome; two sisters, Hazel Hardin and Margaret Hardin, both of Rome; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11, Eastern Daylight Time, at West Oak Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Marvin Glass officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Agan will lie in state at West Oak Chapel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time. At other hours, the family may be contacted at the residence, 4 Cardinal Drive, West Rome. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
