Watchman Dead After Shootout
Silex, Mo. (AP)- A night watchman, William H. Kitson, 65, was shot and killed early yesterday after he apparently surprised burglars at a liquor store, the Missouri Highway Patrol said.
Police said Kitson was found dead about a half block from the liquor store, with his pistol in his hand.
Several shots were exchanged in the encounter, police said, with one shot striking Kitson in the chest. It was not immediately known whether any of Kitson's shots had hit the burglars.
Silex is about 35 miles northwest of St. Louis in Lincoln County.
