James A. Little married Emma Verhine Gelespie on March 3, 1895 in Bartow County, GA. Emma had one daughter, Maggie, from a previous marriage. Maggie last married Sam McGregor.

James was a farmer and a potter based on censuses and oral family accounts. He and son Luther are both mentioned in the book "BROTHERS IN CLAY: The Story of Georgia Folk Pottery" by John A. Burrison. The inscription on his monument reads, "HIS MEMORY IS BLESSED."

James Little was admitted to Brawner's Sanitarium and transferred to Georgia State Sanitarium where he remained a year and four days. He died at the sanitarium, his death ruled a suicide. A recording left by granddaughter Ruby Brown Williams and research by Hubert Holland regarding the content of the clay used in local pottery suggests he may have had early onset Alzheimers. We will never know.

Wife Emma and son Luther are buried beside Jim. Please note the death date on both monuments is incorrect proven by obituaries and vital records. They were placed by the cemetery committee and where the committee obtained their information is a mystery. Obviously, there was little to no research. Emma's is off by 12 years.

James and Emma had the following children:
Estella (m. William Homer Brown)
Alma Evie (m. George Thomas Brown)
James Luther (m. Ruth Jones)

Note: Estella and Alma married the Brown cousins on May 25, 1913 in Bartow County, GA. The records are online at www.gabartow.org.
