Vol I, A-F, Pg 2 -
"In a letter of 22 January 1650/1 to the Town of Providence, concerned with several matters involving orphans and unsettled estates, Roger Williams asked that special care be taken of "one of the orphans of our dead friend Dan. Abbot, (who) is likely (as herself told me) to be disposed of in marriage" (RWCorr 329, 331). This would be the only daughter, Mary, just before her marriage to Thomas Walling.
"In a list of Providence land grants made on 24 May 1673, a grnat was ade "unto Daniel Abott and Thomas Wallin two lots together" (PrTR 3:224-45); the combing of these two grants by the town may indicate that this was in fact a grant made in the right of the elder, deceased, Daniel Abbottm the grantees here being his son and son-in-law, and only known heirs. On 6 and 21 November 1685 two grants of land were made to Daniel Abbott "in the right of his deceased father Daniell Abbott" (PrTR 14:186-87).
"Although not recorded as such, Daniel Abbott was a proprietor in Providence, for on 27 April 1680 the town voted "that whereas there is no record in our town book now found extant that Daniell Abbott formerly inhabitant in this town of Providence, deceased, was an equal proprietor with the rest of the purchasers within the township thereof, though known to this town to be a purchaser with them. This town doth there-upon order & it is hereby ordered that Daniell Abbott his son and heir by right of succession, be now recorded a purchaser in his father's room & stead" (PrTR 8:69-70)."

NOTE:
At different times in history, the name of Wallen is recorded with variations such as Wallin and Walling. The passenger list of the ship "Anne", dated Jul 1623, lists Ralph's (1590-1633) surname as "Wallen". To avoid confusion, my ancestors who descended from Ralph will be shown as Wallen.

Gravesite Details

"In 1647, Providence RI had no state churches with adjacent public burial grounds, as most New England towns had. Instead, townspeople buried their dead in family plots on individual farms."
