Chico Daily Record, Tuesday, February 7, 1899, pg 1 col 4: An Old Settler Dead. Frank Dufour of Nimshew Succumbs to Pneumonia. Frank Dufour, one of the old settlers of Butte County, died at Nimshew Sunday morning after a brief illness. One week before his death he was attacked by a cold, which developed into pneumonia. Being over sixty years of age, and a man who was somewhat broken down physically by hard work, he was not able to survive the severe illness.
Deceased was a native of Missouri, aged 63 years. He came to California in early days, and for many years engaged in mining and lumbering in the vicinity of Magalia. Later he moved to Nimshew, and for some time previous to his death he was the postmaster at that place. About five months ago he became the proprietor of the Nimshew Hotel. Deceased leaves a wife, who is now quite seriously ill, and five daughters. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Nimshew.
