ROCHELLE - Francis "Gus" E. Anderson, 83, formerly of North Ft. Myers, Fla., passed away on Saturday, Aug., 13, 2005 at his daughter's home in Rochelle. He was born in Chicago, the eldest son of Magnus and Rose (Wesenberg) Andersen. Gus married Pearl Arlene Ladbury on July 15, 1944 in Willimgton, Tenn. They were married 56 years when she preceded him in death on April 13, 2001. He was also preceded by his parents, and a brother, Norman.

Gus served in the U.S. Navy during WWII based in the Pacific in Hawaii. After the war, he lived and farmed in Boone County, north of Capron. In 1978 Gus retired from farming and moved to Florida. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #2199 in Cape Coral, Fla.

Survivors include his daughter, Barbara (Arlen "Buzz") Harms, of Rochelle, a sister, June (William) Andrew of Oregon; grandchildren, Christy (Mark) McGowan and Jason Beckett, of Rockford, and Andrew Harms and Heather Harms, of Rochelle; great-grandchildren, Audrey Sullivan and Brennden Harms, of Rochelle, and Carter and Darb McGowan, of Rockford.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at Faith Lutheran Church where he attended with his daughter and family at 14206 Flagg Road in Rochelle. A visitation prior to the service will begin at 10 a.m. Pastor Steven Dow will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded, assisted by Unger-Horner Funeral Home.

Burial of Gus and Pearl's ashes will be at Blaine Cemetery in Boone County. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Ogle County Hospice, or to the Mortgage and Ministry Fund of Faith Lutheran Church.
