Services were held for Walter L. Straw, age 55, at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, February 27, 1971, at the Baptist Church
of Douglass, Allen Jones officiated.
Walter was born April 20, 1915, in Preston, the son of Andrew and Eva Straw.
During World War II, he served in Alaska. On April 14, 1944 he married Katarine Beley in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She survives in the home.
Also surviving are three sons, James of Clarkville, Tennessee, Spec/4 Wayne Straw, stationed in Vietnam, and Andrew of Wichita; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Haas of Douglass and Miss Betty Straw of Littleton, Colorado; and two granchildren.
Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Eva Straw of Pratt, a brother, Orville of Hope, Arkansas, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Mitchell of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Mrs Gail White of Big Cabin, Oklahoma and Mrs. Bonita Baillard of Alsea, Oregon.
Mr. Straw was a member of the Baptist Church and AF and AM 151 of Douglass; a past patron of Woodbine Chapter 95,OES; Wichita Consistory, Midian Shrine of Wichita; York Rite of Winfield; and VFW of Derby.
Music was provided by Mrs. E. C. Condon and Jim Bucher, who sang, "Beyond the Sunset" and "It is No Secret". They were accompanied on the piano by Mrs. J. C. Seal.
Bearers were Richard Davis, James L. Ford, Jim Bucher, Victor Cox, John Thompson and Marion Futhey.
Committal services were given by Masons of A.F. & A.M.-151. Burial was in the Douglass Cemetery. Hilyard Funeral Home was in charge of the service.
