Jean L. (Ganoung) Aderman

ALLEGANY - Jean L. Aderman, of 2962 Smith Hollow Road, passed away from a lengthy battle with cancer Sunday (March 13, 2016) at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Olean and was a daughter of the late Charles and Claudia Kelley Ganoung. On May 17, 1947, in Wellsville, she married her husband of 67 years, Richard "Dick" Aderman, who preceded her in death Oct. 28, 2014.

Jean was a graduate of Olean High School and Westbrook Academy. She retired from Cattaraugus County Mental Health Services (Guidepost) in 1991 after 20 years of service.

Jean was a member of Creekside Chapel Church and the 60 Plus Club of Allegany. She was a past secretary for the Cattaraugus County Mental Health Services Board of Directors. Jean was a member of the local T.O.P.S. Chapter 359. She was the director and teacher of the CYC youth program in her church for several years.

Her faith in God sustained her through many difficult days as well as good times.

Jean loved putting puzzles together, playing cards and reading. Her favorite game lately was Rummikub. She was an avid Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees fan. Jean loved spending time with family and friends, especially reminiscing about the past. She loved doing her genealogy.

Jean is survived by a son, Jack (Joyce) Aderman of Olean; four daughters, Barbara (David) Caya of Rockford, Ill., and Sue Aderman, Patricia Powley and Joyce (the late Jerry) Fitch, all of Olean; seven grandchildren, Brenda (Michael) Smith, Keri (Tony) Coleman, Jason (Bethany Turk) Aderman, Ryan (Amber) Aderman, Travis (Sara) Aderman, Nick (Megan) Powley and Nate (Nina) Powley; 11 great-grandchildren, Joshua and Megan Smith, Collin Coleman, Blake, Mackenzie and Dominic Aderman, Luke Aderman, Izabella Provorse, Abbigail and Jack Aderman, and Spencer Powley; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her loving husband and parents, Jean was predeceased by two sons, Richard Aderman Jr., in 1978, and infant David Aderman, in 1964; two grandchildren, Kevin Frederick, in 1981, and infant Daniel Aderman, in 1985; a brother, Charles Ganoung Jr.; and a sister, Patricia Page.

Burial will be in the Allegany Cemetery.
