Mary was my sweet Grandmother She lived in our home in the summer, and went to live with her son, John and his family Martha, Ned,
Bob, and Helen, in the winter. sometimes she went for long visits to her daughter, Elizabeth (Betty) with her family of Charles, Jack, and Dan, too in Detroit, and then in North Carolina.
She kept herself busy with church, meetings/lectures, sewing, and painting (oil portraits, and stilllifes that she sometimes sold to make a little money. Sometimes she baked cookies, or pies. She liked her tea and crumpets in the afternoon. She had furniture from her family that was beautiful and are now antiques.
She was an active member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to attend the meetings, and took my mother, Pat Shassberger, and me, Barbara Sleeper. She even hired someone to trace her lineage in the days without computer access and her line was traced to Gaius Brewer who fought in the Revolutionary War, entering the service in 1777. He fought for the Northern Army under General Gates.
