Mrs. Josephine Reis, 89 years old, died Sunday morning at 1:15 o'clock at her home, 329 East Lincoln Street. Her death was brought on by compilation of ailments. She was born at Ujest, Silesia, Kingdom of Prussia, on Nov. 27, 1837.
At the age of fifteen, she came with her parents to the city of St. Louis, Mo., where she met and married the late contractor Valentine Reis, who preceded her in death about 35 years ago in this city. The marriage took place at St. Peter and Paul's Church, St. Louis.
She is survived by six children: two daughters, Mrs. Anna Knetzger of Peoria, Ill, and Mrs. Josephine Knapp of this city; and four sons, Henry, Valentine, and Charles, of St. Louis, Mo., and Joseph B. of this city; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; besides two sisters and one brother living in the state of Minnesota. Several children preceded her in death, among them Miss Barbara of this city and Mrs. Elizabeth Rapp of St. Louis, Mo.
She led a quiet home life, living for her family, home, and religion. Many acts of charity graced her simple life. She was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral Parish and belonged to the Christian Mothers and Altar Societies and the Rosary confranternity.
Funeral services will be held at St. Peter's Cathedral at 9 o'clock Thursday morning. The burial will be in Green Mount Cemetery. Her resting place will be beside her husband.
