Hempstead Washburne Sr., 70, of 150 Ridge Lane, Lake Forest, associated with Dean Witter & Co., 50 W. Adams St., died yesterday while returning from a vacation in Huron Mountain, Mich. His late father, Hempstead Washburne, was mayor of Chicago in the 1890s. His grandfather, Elihu Washburne, was secretary of state in 1869 and minister to France during the Franco-Prussian War in 1871. Surviving are his widow, Mary; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Isham and Mrs. Marie Campbell; two sons, Hempstead Jr. and Thomas; one sister and one brother. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church, 175 E. Illinois Rd., Lake Forest.
