Charles Wesley Cook, son of Newton and Elizabeth Cook was born March 24, 1856 at Indianapolis, IN and died at his home in Elbert, Colorado, March 14, 1944, at age 87 years, 11 months and 20 days.

He came to Atchison county, Kansas with his parents in 1861. He was married to Emma Angeline Reitzel February 17, 1877 at Waterville, Kansas. They immediately moved to homestead in Mitchell county, Kansas, later to Waldo, Kansas, then to Elberrt, Colorado. Mrs. Cook preceded him in death on March 10, 1926. To this union were born nine children, one having died in infancy. Two daughters passed to their reward also in recent years. They were Mrs. Harry Michael and Mrs. Claude Wilson.

He leaves to mourn his departure six children: A.G. Cook, Waldo, Kansas; Mrs. Charles Arbogast, Numa, Iowa; Nile Cook, Elbert, Colorado; Mrs. Lela Chatham, Mayette, Kansas; Newton Cook, Elbert, Colorado, and J.M. Cook of Salem, Oregon.

There also survive one brother, J.F. Cook, Lenora, Idaho, five sisters Mrs. Jane Yungeberg, Waterville, Kansas; Mrs. Mary Monroe, Empire, California; Mrs. Ida M. Harmish, Ottawa, Kansas; Mrs. Amanda Marler, Simpson, Kansas; Mrs. Martha Coles, Waldo, Kansas.

Two brother and one sister preceded him in death. There also survive 28 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Seven grandsons are now in the service of their country, six of them being overseas.

He united with the Baptist Church of Grand Center in 1897 and remained a faithful and loyal member to the end. He was also a member of the IOOF Lodge.

The body was brought to Russell, Kansas from which point it was taken to the Pohlman funeral chapel in Natoma. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C.A. Kemp at the Grand Center Church at 2 p.m. Friday, March 17 and interment was made in the Grand Center cemetery. The Pohlman Funeral Service was in charge.
