Werter D. Dodd, 88, a former newspaperman and retired Yakima Valley cattle rancher, died yesterday in a Seattle hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be at 9 o'clock Saturday forenoon at the Butterworth chapel. Burial will be in Acacia.

Mr. Dodd was born in Caldwell, Idaho. He worked on the LaGrande, Ore., newspaper and The Tacoma Ledger. He was publisher of The Bellingham Herald from 1903 to 1912.

In 1917 Mr. Dodd moved to the Yakima Valley. He retired from his cattle ranch in 1957 and moved to Seattle.

Survivors include his wife, Anne; two sons, Gregory E. Dodd, Portland, Ore.; and Gordon B. Dodd, Seattle; and four grandchildren.
