WILLIAMSBURG - Retired Lt. Col. Willard Carl Abercrombie, 87, passed away Saturday, Sept. 9, 1995, at his home.

A native of Kansas City, Mo., he was a Williamsburg resident for 50 years. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of distinguished service. He retired as the battalion commander of the 763rd Transportation Battalion of Fort Eustis, Va., where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. His meritorious service also included tours of duty in France; England; Belgium; Stuttgart, Germany; Salzburg, Austria; Mannheim-Rheinau, Germany; and Seoul, Korea. He served as railway equipment superintendent, operations and staff officer, field transportation officer, instructor and railway operations superintendent, instructor school commandant and student-troop movement officer.
