August F. Dreger, 81, of 740 East Main, suffered a heart attack while shoveling snow at his home Wednesday afternoon. He was born in Ionia county, August 29, 1885 and was the son of William and Wilhemina Dreger.
Mr. Dreger lived his entire life in Ionia county and married Olive Yeasley of Ionia, May 18, 1910. They moved to a house on Lincoln avenue and lived there a short time, moving to their present home on East Main where they have lived since 1911. Five years ago they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran church and at the age of 16 stated working in a supervisory capacity and continued until his retirement. Mr. Dreger was employed by Stafford furnace plant in Ionia 13 years, Fisher Boyd shop 13 years, supervisor in the chair factory at Michigan Reformatory, and employed by Gibson Refrigerator 10 years prior to his retirement in 52. Mr. Dreger was also well known in and around Ionia county for his added interest in bees and he had pursued the hobby since 1932.
Surviving are his wife, Olive; two sons, Gaylord F. Dreger of Belding and R. Wayne Dreger of Charlotte; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Tillie Wizorek and Mrs. Edith Bigsby of Ionia.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at St. John Lutheran church with interment iin Sunset Memorial gardens.
The family has established a memorial fund for the church and will be at Boynton funeral home Thursday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock.
