He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Boone worked for 30 years as a pipefitter at Bridgeport Brass. Following his retirement there, he worked for the Indiana School for the Deaf, where he remained for 15 years. With both of his parents being deaf, his first language to learn was sign. He used this talent and gift for more than 30 years as the Signing Santa at the Greenwood Park Mall. Parents would bring their deaf children from various states so that they could communicate with Santa Claus. He touched many lives and enjoyed this work immensely. In addition, Mr. Boone was a longtime member of the Mooresville Church of God and the Mooresville VFW Post 1111.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Wilma Lois Boone and his second wife, Delores Maxine Clair Boone; one sister, Alfreda M. Sanders.
Survivors include his daughters, Cathy Boone Black (Bill Black) of Noblesville, Teresa Duncan (Damon) of Camby, and Beverly Peasley of Kentucky; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeremy, James, Emily, Bridget, John, and Diedre; great grandchildren, Christopher, Macy, and Kaylee.
The funeral service was at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 16, 2010, in the Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel, Mooresville, with calling there from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 15, 2010. Burial was in the Mooresville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Children's Wish Fund.
