Obituary:
News & Observer (Raleigh, NC), Sat, 30 Aug 1913, pg 2:
Mrs. James Amos
Henderson, Aug 29 - The funeral of Mrs. James Amos as held at the residence, Rev Thomas H. Watkins officiated. The remains being interred in Elmwood cemetery There were many handsome floral designs sent by relatives and friends.
Mrs. Amos was a fine woman and as very popular in our city.
She was Miss Belle McCowan and resided in Michigan at the time of her marriage to Mr. Amos, of Henderson. She was a devoted member of the Presbyterian church. Her death was sudden, she was up town a short time before her death, and was unusually energetic and out just a few minutes before she died - fell suddenly and expired.
She was getting ready, it is understood, to take a trip abroad and visit relatives in England and Scotland.
—————————

Discrepancy: death certificate lists parents as John McCowan & Isabella McMillan, both born Scotland, but Wayne Co, Michigan marriage record lists father's name as Samuel D.

Detroit, Wayne Co, Michigan: 15 Aug 1906, James Amos, 51, of Henderson, NC, s/o Robert, & Catherine McCowan, 45, of Detroit, Michigan, d/o Samuel D. Both born Canada.
