Even during her prolonged illness, which necessitated four hours of dialysis three times a week for 23 years, her desire was to serve the Lord instead of thinking of her own discomfort, and she spent many of her hours on dialysis machines in prayer and in writing handwritten letters to missionaries. Until her death she remained active on the missionary committee and the blood drive at her church.
Berta and her devoted husband Bill have shared their time and treasures with Frontier Camp in Grapeland, Texas since its inception in 1969, and The Bill and Berta Jo Standley Chapel there is nearing completion, honoring their long and faithfully service to the glory of God.
In addition to her loving husband of 58 years, Bill Standley of Houston, this truly remarkable woman of God leaves a son, Jack Standley and his wife Therese of Cypress, a daughter, Audrey McCall and her husband Doug of Houston, and grandchildren Wade and Code Standley of Cypress and Sarah and Rachel McCall of Houston.
She is also survived by her brother, Bill Hockin and his wife Alice; sister, Elsie Weisinger and her husband Albert; sister Nancy Crowell and her husband Jess and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to visitation with the family from 6PM to 8PM Thursday, October 3, 2002 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway at Eldridge. Following a private graveside service, a Memorial Service will be held at 11:30AM Friday, October 4, 2002, at Spring Branch Community Church, 9560 Long Point, with the Rev. Tom Douthit, Rev. John Clark, and Rev. Gordon Whitelock officiating. In lieu of flowers, anyone who chooses to do so may contribute to the Bill and Berta Jo Standley Chapel at Frontier Camp, Rt. 1, Box 138, Grapeland, Texas 75844, or to The Mission Fund at Spring Branch Community Church, 9560 Long Point, Houston, Texas 77055. The entire family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Memorial Dialysis Center for their many years of devotion. A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. Provers 31:10-11.
