CECIL JAMES

Cecil Leroy James, 81, 2306 N. Brownell Ave., died at 9:05 a.m. Tuesday in a Joplin nursing home after a long illness.

Mr. James was born Jan. 15, 1912, in Joplin, and was a lifetime resident of the town. He was a graduate of Joplin High School. He was employed as a railway mail clerk, retiring in 1969.

He attended Central City Christian Church. He was a member of the Joplin Elks Lodge, the Schifferdecker Golf Club and the Joplin Rifle Club. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He married Verna Jean Gustafson on May 14, 1984, at San Antonio, Texas. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Tim James and Tom James, both of Van Nuys, Calif.; a daughter, Barbara Young, San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The body will be cremated.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Ed Hahn, minister, will officiate.
