In 1890 Calhoun census it shows: Collins, John D., Private, Company "C", 11 WV Infantry. Enlisted 11/24/1861; discharged 3/31/1865. Address: Big Springs, WV. Disability Incurred: Gunshot Wound & Measles.
Enlisted 22 December 1861, Wirt County, he was a private in Company C, 11th. West Virginia, Regiment; discharged in March 1865.
