An unusual scene was enacted at the Salina cemetery last Saturday when a double funeral was held and the bodies of Hyrum S. Anderson and his daughter Mrs. Verne Payne were laid to rest. Father and daughter were victims of influenze, the father being stricken first, and his daughter falling a victim later. There were but a few hours between their deaths.

A great many friends and relatives followed the two caskets to the cemetery where interesting services were held.

Mr. Anderson had served in the capacity of counselor to three bishops in Salina ward, and it was fitting that these three bishops should be the speakers at the services. Bishop J.S. Jensen, Bishop C.A. Mattson and Bishop G. Lorentzen paid high tribute to Hyrum Anderson as a faithful ward worker, and a good citizen and a loving husband and father. They also paid tribute to the daughter, Mrs. Verne Payne, as a girl of splendid character and accomplishment.

The remarks were consoling to the bereaved relatives, and were deserved as Hyrum Anderson was one of the most respected and industrious citizens of Salina, while his daughter Cleone was a worker in religious and civic circles and was greatly loved by her companions and associates.

Musical numbers were furnished by ward choir members under the direction of J.C. Jensen, and Miss Stena Scorup and J.C. Jensen sang "Resignation," a beautiful and appropriate number.

The caskets were covered with beautiful flowers, mute tributes of respect and love from admiring friends.

Hyrum S. Anderson, a brother to Ras and Swen Anderson of this city, passed away at his home in Salina last Wednesday following an attack of pneumonia. On the following day, his daughter, Mrs. Verne Payne, died as a result of an attack of influenza and pneumonia. Mr. Anderson was 60 years old and was widely known in southern Utah for his sterling qualities and his prominence in church and financial circles. For a year or more Mrs. Payne resided at Alunite where her husband was employed. On account of the restrictions on travel and as a precaution against further spreading the disease, the relatives here did not attend the funeral obsequies.
