Daniel Hall Lamson is the son of Captain Reuben Lamson and Sophronia Jane Dobbins. He was born October 5, 1843 at Jonesport, Maine. Daniel was 16 when his father died, and 25 when his mother died. He was 18 in the summer of 1862 when he bought from Daniel J. Sawyer a one-fourth interest in the 16-year-old 77-ft. schooner Zulma, and on 11 August 1862 he left Machias on his first voyage as her captain. He married Adelaide V. Norton, marriage intentions were published November 5, 1870 at Addison, Maine.
In October 1898, Dan and Adelaide's only son had died from malaria while serving in the Army. The following February Adelaide sold land to the East Addison Cemetery for $1 to enlarge and improve it. She reserved lots #44-45 for herself and her family and renamed it Wescogus Cemetery. It is within sight of their homestead.
Late in 1900, Daniel Lamson was in command of the schooner Jennie Hall, and ran into a winter storm off the coast at Virginia Beach, Virginia. The ship was lost, (the wreck is still there), and Dan was "killed by the sea" on December 20, 1900.
