In October 1898, Dan and Adelaide's only son had died from malaria while serving in the Army. The following February Adelaide sold land to the East Addison Cemetery for $1 to enlarge and improve it. She reserved lots #44-45 for herself and her family and renamed it Wescogus Cemetery. It is within sight of their homestead.
Late in 1900, Daniel Lamson was in command of the schooner Jennie Hall, and ran into a winter storm off the coast at Virginia Beach, Virginia. The ship was lost, (the wreck is still there), and Dan was "killed by the sea" on December 20, 1900.
