Luther Carroll Lillard (1888-1924)

Luther Carroll Lillard, son of Jesse Watson Lillard and Martha "Mattie" Casssandra "Porter" Lillard, was born on October 20, 1888 in Randolph County, AR. He married Beulah Webber, with whom he had six children: Irene, Alberta, Anna, Paul Monroe, Inez, and Wallace.

Luther's life was tragically cut short when he was shot by a neighbor on December 17, 1924. Luther was living in Tyronza, AR at the time. The following comments on Luther's death come from a handwritten family history produced by one of my great aunts (I believe in the early to mid-1960s):

The shock of [Luther's] death was so very hard for all the family. The man really had no excuse for shooting him (there was a little dispute over some chickens crossing over into his yard). He was sent to the pen for life, but was paroled after 6 years (with tuberculosis).

Jessie W Lillard and Mattie C Lillard had 11 children. This census shows Nine still living at home. Their other two children are on the same page and are married. They are Peter Owen and Richard.
