OBITUARY:
Nancy Aguilera, 69, died Monday, January 25, 2010. Born January 15, 1941 to Jennie and Emery Lee in Detroit, MI. She graduated from Taylor High School in Taylor, MI. She lived in Valley Center for 29 years, and lived in Vista prior to that. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, painting, traveling, fishing and camping in Bishop, dancing and doing volunteer work. She was a charter member of St. Stephens Catholic Church in Valley Center. She and dear friend Alice Gamboa spearheaded the baskets for the needy program for 16 years at St. Stephens Church. She retired as a Community Service Officer from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department in January 1994. She was instrumental in bringing the successful Neighborhood and Crime Prevention Program to San Diego County law enforcement in the 1970s. She attended the University of Louisville (Kentucky) Crime Prevention Academy and the School of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design in Sacramento. She was the Crime Prevention liason between the city of Vista and the Sheriff's Department and served as chairman on the Crime Prevention Commission. January 19, 1994 was declared Nancy Aguilera Day in the city of Vista. After retirement, she turned her love of sewing and quilting into a second career by sharing her knowledge through sharing. She was a neighborhood group leader and served on the Board of Directors of the American Sewing Guild. As Community Service Co-ordinator for the Guild she arranged many sew-ins to benefit the needy.She was preceded in death by her parents, Jennie and Emery Lee; sister, Verna Wilson of Detroit; and sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Jim Marshall of Valley Center; in-laws, Mary and Bill Aguilera; and Brother-in-law, John Aguilera, all of Vista; and Brother, Ed Lee of Clearwater, Fla. She is survived by her beloved soul mate, husband, Bill Aguilera of Valley Center; much loved son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Michael Aguilera-Hobbs (Terri); and grandchildren Brandon and Brigette of Oceanside; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Marie Peterson (Don); and grandchildren, Brittany and Tiffany of Carlsbad; and Desiree Marie Davis (Mike); and granddaughter, Tori of Alpine; sister, Betty Lease of North Bonnesville, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be recited at 10am with a funeral Mass following at 11am on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Valley Center. Interment will be at Valley Center Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Church hall. McLeod Mortuary is handling arrangements. (North County Times, January 28, 2010)
