PITTSBURG n Roy A. Ayers, 91, of Pittsburg died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, in Mount Vernon.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Beaty Funeral Home Chapel in Winnsboro with the Rev. Dalton Graves officiating. Interment will follow at Clearwater Cemetery in Franklin County under the direction of Beaty Funeral Home. Pallbearer will be Bryan Ayers, Burnard Kear, Josh Mason, Jeromy Kull, Jeffrey Ayers, Mark Ayers, Randall Mitchell and Danny Young.

Mr. Ayers was born on Nov. 28, 1916, in Franklin County, the son of William Marion Ayers and Maudie Belle (Rhoades) Ayers. He was a retired farmer and a Baptist. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II, where he received the Purple Heart.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Paul and Donna Ayers of Atlanta and Larry Dale Ayers of Pittsburg; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Gail Mitchell of Winnsboro and Marsha Ann and Mike Kull of Midland; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Elton Ayers of Winnsboro; and two sisters, Allie Buck of Winnsboro and Delma Drennan of Winnsboro.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorayne Winkle Ayers on Nov. 27, 2000; a daughter, Brenda Joyce Ayers in 1958; one brother, Otis Ayers and one sister, Nona Tucker.



Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. n 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
