"DAVID CARRICK PASSES AWAY.
David S. Carrick, one of the pioneers of the State, died Saturday [Sunday?] at his home, 602 East Fifteenth street. He was a native of Maine, but came to this State when but nineteen years of age. He was born in the year 1833.
He was engaged in business in this city from 1868 to 1888. The agricultural possibilities of the State appealed to him strongly, and he engaged in farming and the raising of stock with success for a number of years. In 1859 he married Mary Symmes of Oakland by whom he had one daughter, now Mrs. G. Walter Dearborn of Oakland. Some years after his marriage he settled in Oakland as a wholesale butcher, first under the name of Carrick & Co., and later as Hayes, Carrick & Co. In 1885 he retired from active life. The last years of his life have been passed quietly at his home, 602 East Fifteenth street. He had been suffering from a complication of ailments for three months before his death." END
