Mr. Smith was born in Michigan and when a child came with his parents across the overland trail to Grants Pass, Oregon. In 1878 he settled in Harney County on the land which later was called Coon town, about 25 miles south of Crane. He was an extensive stock raiser and had a large circle of friends throughout the county.
The deceased leaves a brother, Ed Smith of Portland; a son Henry L. Smith, and daughter, Carrie Kidwell, of this county.
Funeral services and burial were at the ranch Tuesday, April 10. Mr. Smith's final resting place is beside his wife, who died some 25 years ago.
