Wiley Drayton O'Shields born 1832
He was a man who accomplished a great deal in his short life of 50 years . He married in 1851 to his beloved wife Julia Smith born 1827. The daughter of Enoch Smith and Abigail Elder .
Wiley Drayton was a Farmer, he was farming the land of his Mother-in-law Abigail Elder Smith in Walnut Grove area of Spartanburg S,C .
At this time in 1860 Wiley Drayton O'Shields did not own any land. And the O'Shields Plantation did not exist.
When the call for men to protect our state from the invasion of the north, called the war of oppression, and the War between the states.

On Dec 29, 1861 he was enlisted by Col P.F Stevens in Co. A Holcombe Legion at Camp Walsh. He was listed as six feet one inch tall -blues eyes -black hair -fair complexion. Enlisted to serve one year in the Confederate Army
April 4 ,1862
he was given a medical discharge at Camp Blair in S,C after he was injured.
I am proud to be the Great Grandson of a man who served his state and sacrifice his life to do so . I honor him and hold the flag up high he fought under, And the cause for state rights,

He returned home to Walnut Grove.

Wiley Drayton and Julia bought 272 Acres of land on Blackstock road in the Glenn Springs area where he built his home. That still stands today, His oldest Son James Monroe O'Shields was 16 years old and my Grandfather Wiley G.S was 6 years old, When they bought their first 272 acres of land. It is Stated in my Grandfathers Wiley G.S O'Shields Biography his father Built their family home on this property . Wiley Drayton & Julia Smith O'Shields Plantation was listed on the 1869 Historical Map in Spartanburg S,C

Wiley Drayton's Plantation grew as he bought more land over the years. It was over 800 hundred acres of land when he passed away in 1882. all of his sons were married and had a family of their own ,except his Youngest son Wiley George Simpson O'Shields and he married in Nov ,1883.
