Born in Rockland July 22, 1955, he was a son of Eugene W. and Ruth (Oliver) Staples. As a very young child, he spent summers on Metinic island. He attended Rockland schools, leaving at age 17 to join the Navy. After basic training at Great Lakes, Ill., he served at Jacksonville, Fla., and on several aircraft carriers, including the USS Nimitz, serving in the waters of Vietnam.
He was predeceased by his parents.
David is survived by his children, Tina Justyna and her husband, Fred, of Orange Park, Fla., David Staples II of Jacksonville, Fla., and Daniel P. Staples of Cushing; six siblings, Mildred Lewis of South Thomaston, Barbara Arasz and her husband, Dick, of Liberty, Gene Staples and his wife, Lorrie, of Thomaston, Fran Costa and her husband, Terry, of West Rockport, Danny Staples and his wife, Cindi, of Cushing and Betty Grant of Rockland; three grandchildren, Shane Justyna, Amber Justyna and Gavin Staples; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held at Achorn Cemetery on Old County Road in Rockland. (VillageSoup online 9/10/2010)
