He and Sarah eventually settled in Clay Township, Douglas County, Missouri. He is listed as a volunteer during the Civil War, Home Guard, Union Army, Douglas County, Missouri. He was also a justice of the peace for Douglas County and was a highly respected man of the community. He died in Clay Township at age 76.
