Horace's obituary appeared in the Tuesday, August 9, 1983 issue of The Monitor, McAllen, Hidalgo County, Texas:

"Horace F. Sherman
Horace F. Sherman died unexpectedly at 4:20 a.m. Monday at McAllen Methodist Hospital. He was 103.

Born in Bremer County, Iowa, in 1880, he had lived in McAllen since 1942 and was a retired farmer. He was a long-time member of Maranatha Baptist Church in McAllen and served from 1946-1970 on the board of the Rio Grande Bible Institute in Edinburg.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 at Virgil Wilson Chapel of McAllen with Dr. George Parker, academic dean of the Rio Grande Bible Institute, officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lloyd Steele, Mrs. Lyman Rea, Fred Orgel and Jim Hunter.

Mr. Sherman is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Fae Sherman; two daughters, Mrs. C. Evril Conyers of Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. F. Wayne Sharp of New Jersey; two nephews, George O. and John Morgan, both of Nebraska; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren."

"Horace recovered from a 1978 stroke. He never drank coffee in his life and very little tea. He drank plain hot water. He was deeply religious..he always had his Bible with him. Horace was married 4 times, the first two ending in divorce. The name of his first wife is not known. His second wife was Eula B. Lashbrook. His 3rd ended with his wife's death. She was Anna M. Van Duyn. His 4th wife outlived him. She was Ella Fae Collins."
