Born in Charlotte, he was the son of the late John Ambrose "Johnny" House, Sr., and the former Winnie Estelle Cook. He had a younger brother who died in the infancy. He was a graduate of Central High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. House retired as a Captain with the Charlotte Fire Department after over 35 years of service. Following retirement, he worked for the Charles T. Myers Gold Course. He was a member of Arlington Baptist Church, the Retired Firefighters Association and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Mr. House was preceded in death by his first wife, Willie, and by his second wife, Connie. He is survived by 3 daughters, Pamela Gene Barnes and husband, Jimmy of Monroe, Penny Winchester and her husband, Jack of Belmont and Elaine Featherman and her husband, Jim of Charlotte; six grandchildren, Christy Reece, Chris Reeece, Mark Winchester, Jenny Marlowe, Tammy Haver, and Jim Barnes; and six great-grandchildren.
