It is with a sad heart we record the death of Grandma Boaz, who died December 7. Another good old fashioned mother has gone to her reward. The Lucretia Turner was born in Patrick Co. Va. December 23, 1831 and was married to Stephen M. Boaz July 26, 1856. They came to Arkansas in October 1867 and settled in the middle fork valley of the White River near where Sulphur is now. Her husband died February 5, 1880. Ten children were born to this union. One died in infancy, another about 16 years ago. Those living are Mat D., Robert L., John G., Stuart and Johnson L. The daughters are Mrs. S.E. Hawkins of Frederick, Okla., Mrs. Annie Carrigan of Fort Smith and Mrs. Mary Fawbush of this place. All were present but Mrs. Hawkins and Mrs. Carrigan. She professed religion about the year 1888 and lived a devoted Christian, always patient through a constant sufferer for over 22 years. She had been rapidly failing for the past 7 weeks but all that loving hands and willing hearts could do, could not allay her sufferings or stay the dread monster, death. She knew every one until the last minute. Her last words were "call the boys" who had only stepped out of the room. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Stone at Mt. Salem amidst a host of weeping relatives and friends. Her friends were legion.
