Harry Leonard Storm, son of Mark and Etta [Noffke] Storm was born in Big Spring township, June 19, 1919 and died Oct. 8, 1943 in the Veterans hospital at Marion, Ill., aged 24 years, 3 months and 19 days. He lived with his parents in their home until Jan. 27, 1942, he volunteered in the service of his country. He received training at Jefferson Barracks and later at Fort Geo. Wright in Washington state. While on duty as a guard there, he received the injury which resulted about 13 months later in his death. He is survived by his parents and the following sisters and brother: Mrs. Helen Bridges, Dallas, Juanita, Ruth and Marilyn. His loved ones and friends and neighbors all say "He was a very fine young man and that his passing at such an early age, has saddened many hearts." But 'tis well to have known him and to have had his uplifting influence for these few years. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ira Blythe in the Ash Grove church Sunday at 2:30 o'clock. Music was by Misses Eileen and Virginia Kercheval and Mrs. Vance Kercheval at the piano. Songs were "What A Friend We Have in Jesus," "No Disappointments in Heaven" and "Beyond the Sunset." The pall bearers were Sgt. Wayne Robison, Pvt. Morris L. Brehmer, Gaylord Thomas, Ivan Keller and Clarence H. Lading all of Strasburg and Herman Giertz, Mattoon, Ill. The beautiful floral offerings were carried by young lady friends. The Strasburg Legion gave the military service about the flag draped casket, a salute was fired, taps were sounded and the young soldier who gave up his life in defense of his country was left to quietly await the resurrection, and the weary mourners returned to their home to take up anew the duties of life.
