John Paret started out in business with his father-in-law, Israel Levy. They had a clothier business together called Levy & Paret at 221 Greenwich Street in Manhattan. After Israel died, John continued the business himself with the John Paret & Company, still located at 221 Greenwich Street; and later called it became John Paret & Son at 63 Malden Lane. After John died, his sons Henry Paret and John Paret, Jr. kept the business going and had a large store located at 360 Broadway.
Note: Four of John and Hester's sons who died young--Alfred, Israel, Robert, and Thomas.
They must have been initially been buried somewhere else, possibly St. Paul's Churchyard in Manhattan, because they were all buried in Green-wood Cemetery on the same day, 4 Feb 1847. Their grandfather Israel Levy, aunt Rachel (Levy) Dunkin and her husband Thomas Dunkin, were also buried in Green-wood Cemetery on 4 Feb 1847. Israel Levy is buried in Section 76, Lot #1367. The other family buried in this plot were his John Paret and his wife Hester, and seven of their children, all who either died young or never married. They were Alfred, Caroline, Israel, James Francis, Mary Eliza, Rachel, Robert, and Thomas.
