"Miss Elizabeth Ellery Dana died at her residence in Chestnut St on Thursday, at the age of eighty-five years. the deceased lady was daughter of Chief Justice Dana and granddaughter of William Ellery. A great many persons of all ages, from the youngest to the most aged, and of all conditions in life, will learn of her death with true sorrow, and cherish her memory with affection, gratitude and deep respect."

Notes: Elizabeth was a prominent figure in Boston society, especially in music and literary circles. Her family lived in Europe during part of her younger years, and her father was a Massachusetts legislator and later, Chief Justice of its Supreme Court. Elizabeth's brother Richard Henry Dana, two years her elder, was the well-known author of 'Two Years Before the Mast'
