JEANNE SHAFER WELLER
84, a lifelong resident of the Springfield and Clark County area, died Sunday morning, November 12, 2000 in the Ohio Masonic Home, where she had resided for the past three years. She had been in failing health for several years.
She was born July 7, 1916 in Springfield, the only child of Earl C. and Jessie E. (Funk) Shafer. Jeanne was a long-time member of Central United Methodist Church.
She graduated from Springfield High School in 1934, and was active, along with her husband, on the Reunion Committee for many years.
She was united in marriage on July 11, 1936, with Merrill B. Weller, having celebrated their sixty-fourth anniversary this year. They raised their family of four sons at Lake Sylvan, just east of South Vienna. For a time she worked at Hollandia Gardens in South Vienna. After she and her husband moved back to Springfield, she worked as a receptionist/secretary for Dr. Delbert J. Parsons, and after his death, was a receptionist for Dr. Sami Girgis at Community Hospital.
Jeanne and Merrill enjoyed collecting antiques, especially Weller Pottery and Hummels.
Her survivors include her husband of 64 years, Merrill B. Weller, also a resident of the Ohio Masonic Home; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Roger Weller and his fiance, Lynn Pollock of Davidsonville, Maryland, Ronald G. and Dianne Weller, Robert J. and Dianna Weller, all of Springfield, Roland B. Weller of South Vienna; sister-in-law, Mildred Weller of Springfield; six grandchildren, Lisa (Christopher) Anderson of Annapolis, Maryland, Andrew (Marilyn) Weller of Greensburg, Indiana, Aaron (Heather) Weller of Springfield, Amy (David) Davis of Waynesville, Steven Weller of Lawrenceville, Kristina (Jason) Byrd of Springfield; three great-grandchildren, Jessica M. Rowe, Jason Storm Byrd, and Shelbie M. Weller, all of Springfield; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Carol and Tom Waugh and Virginia Allen of Springfield; and special friends at the Ohio Masonic Home, Mildred Clark and Mary Carl.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Edward A. Pfeiffer; step-brother, Ralph Pfeiffer; and brother-in-law, William F. Weller.
Memorial services will be held in the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home, Springfield, Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Julie Carmean officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.
Her body will be cremated, and interment will be at the convenience of the family in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorial gifts may be made in Jeanne's memory to the Ohio Masonic Home Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 120, Springfield, Ohio 45501. (Her ashes were interred with her husband).
