Mrs. Sophia Koehler, born Deist, first saw the light of this world in Buffalo, N. Y. on August 15, 1846, and closed her eyes in death near Boelus, on October 18, 1916, having reached the age of 70 years, 2 mo and 3 days. In the month of October, 1870 she was married to Mr. John Koehler in the state of Wisconsin. Here the deceased lived for 14 years, and in 1884 Mr. and Mrs. Koehler came to Boelus where her earthly abiding place has since been. This union was blessed with fourteen children, ten of whom preceded the mother into eternity, and the husband and four children are still living in this land of preparation until that day when the Great Judge shall also summon them before his throne.

Two sons, Fred and Albert, are at home under the parental roof and the daughters, Mrs. Hy Shipman and Mrs. Hy White root (sic) live in Boelus. The deceased is also survived by two brothers, John and Frank Deist, living at Honey Creek, Wis. and one sister, Mrs. Wm. Shenkenberg, residing at Waterford, Wis, besides 19 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends who mourn her loss.

Mrs. Koehler's last words were: "Where are the boys?" She was a loving wife a devoted mother, and a kind neighbor. The Lord help that the good that she has done may bring all that knew her, near to him in faith and service. May God in his loving kindness bless and comfort the bereaved ones, and strengthen their hope in eternity.

Funeral services were conducted on October 22nd by Rev. F. W. Bintz in the German M. E. Church. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near this church.
