They had no children. Benjamin died aged 44 on 29th August 1862, cause unknown, as yet. During the Civil War, Susan ran a post office from her home, in Glen Allen, for her neighbors to contact relatives and friends in the Confederate army. Presumably this was how she and Captain John Cussons became acquainted. They married in Richmond on 19th May 1864. Due to the fact that Susan was 13 years John's senior, they had no children.
