Virlinda J. Aull was the daughter of James Aull (1817-1896) and his wife Charlotte "Lottie", nee McDaniel (1817-1894).

Her first name is listed in several records as Malinda, including both marriage records. She was born November 23, 1841 in Kentucky and baptized as Virlinda Jane Aull at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Daviess County, Kentucky on December 12, 1841 by Reverend W. Coomes. Her sponsor was Elizabeth Aull. She was listed as Verlinda J. in the 1850 census and as Burlinda J. in that for 1860.

She married James Thomas Montgomery on November 27, 1860 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Their only child, James Austin "Jim" Montgomery, was born November 3, 1861. Jim died on December 26, 1882 from a gunshot wound at Owensboro. His death was described as a murder by gun in the newspaper account. The person who shot him was later acquitted on the basis of shooting Jim in self-defense.

Her husband James Thomas Montgomery died between December 1882 and December 1885. Virlinda married Robert Abel McBride (1847-1917) on December 17, 1885. Robert was a widower and her brother-in-law. He had married Virlinda's sister Elizabeth Frederica Aull in 1871. Elizabeth died in March 1885, apparently due to complications of childbirth, leaving eight children age 14 and under.

The death certificate in the name Virlindy McBride shows she died July 23, 1912 of chronic nephritis, which she had for ten years. Asthma contributed to cause death. She was listed as a married housewife. She was buried in St. Lawrence Catholic Church cemetery the following day, July 24, 1912. Her grave marker there shows her as V. J., wife of R. A. McBride.
