Impressions and observations of the Journal Man - By Fred Lockley (Oregon Daily Journal, 27 Jan 1927, Pg 10) In an interview with, Campbell, Vanderpool, son of Kinman Vanderpool:
"You will have to speak loud, as I am deaf said Campbell Vanderpool, when I visited him recently at his home in Wells, in Benton County, Oregon. I was born March 27, 1834, in Missouri. My father's name was Kinman Vanderpool. He was born in Tennessee. My mother's maiden name was Elizabeth Mann. She had an even dozen children, two of them being twins. After the death of my mother, Father married Dulciana Tomlinson. We crossed the plains in 1852, when I was 18 years old. Father had two children, a boy and a girl, by his second wife. Father died of mountain fever right after we reached the Willamette Valley. My stepmother married again. Marrying Alec Hodges, by whom she had six more children. Alec Hodges is my present wife's uncle. I am the only one now living of the 12 children born to my mother."
