AGED RESIDENT CALLED BY DEATH
Mrs. Mary Pugh Died Tuesday at the Home of Her Daughter, Mrs. Geo. Stice, Aged Nearly 85 years.
Mrs. Mary Pugh, one of Waverly's oldest citizens and a resident of this city and vicinity since her birth in 1840, died Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George W. Stice, following an extended illness.
Mary C. Rohrer, daughter of Jonathan and Mary Rohrer, was born April 8, 1840, near Waverly, and departed this life Tuesday, March 31, 1925, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 23 days.
She was married to Bartley Pugh, September 3, 1862, and to this union five children were born: Charles and Eva who died in infancy, Mrs. Mary Stice and John A. Pugh of Paris, Mo. She is also survived byseven grandchildren: Lester Stice, Mrs. Elsie Mason, Gladen Pugh, Estel R. Pugh, Mary C. Pugh, George C. Pugh and Fred K. Pugh, one granddaughter, Florence Stice Burnett, having preceded her in death. Out of her father's family only one sister remains, Mrs. Louise Fletcher of this city. Besides her near relatives she leaves many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Pugh lived on a farm south of Waverly until 1895, when she moved into town and has resided here ever since. She was recently taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Stice, where she spent her last days.
She was converted at the tender age of fifteen, and became a charter member of Brush College M. E. church. When that society was abandoned, she with the remaining members moved her membership to Rohrer Chapel, which was built in 1876, and remained a faithful member until the end.
Funeral services were held at the First M. E. church Thursday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. C. W. Andrew, pastor of the M.E. Circuit, officiated, being assisted by the pastor of the church, Rev. A. R. Wassell. Interment was in East cemetery.
