Mrs. Julia A. Aurand Shearer was born March 8, 1846 in Jo Daviess County, Illinois. She was united in marriage to Wilson Shearer, January 9, 1867 at Freeport, Illinois after which they removed to Yankton, South Dakota, where they homesteaded. In the spring of 1878 they were among the pioneers who settled and started the village of Milltown. Here they united with the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. Mrs. Shearer found the Lord early in life and endeavored to serve him faithfully unto the end. She deeded to the church the ground on which the building now stands, just a half block from where she passed peacefully to her reward on April

These together with, eighteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, cherish sweet memories of her beautiful life. The last rites were tendered amidst many beautiful flowers. Funeral and burial at Milltown church and cemetery. The Rev. F. R. Wild officiated.
