Billie Anne Shorter Marilla died Tuesday, August 31, 2010.
Born April 7, 1930 in Pittsylvania County, near Chatham, VA, she was the daughter of the late W. S. Shorter and the late Eula Adkins Shorter. She lived most of her life in Danville, VA.
She was married to William "Billy" Marilla who predeceased her.
She worked as seamstress/tailor for the Quartermaster at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, VA. She retired in 1999 after 30 years of service to the Academy. The Hargrave Alumni Association named her Honorary Alumnus in 2001.
She was a member of West End Christian Church, Danville, VA.
In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by two sons, Richard Jesse Marilla and Rodney Thomas Marilla.
She is survived by one son, William Sterling Marilla and wife, Sharon of Chatham; four grandsons, Richard Jesse Marilla, Jr. of Evington, VA, Robert William Marilla and wife, Meredith of Denver, NC, William Sterling Marilla, Jr. and wife, Sheree of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Carl Edward Marilla and wife, Brandy of Danville; seven great-grandchildren, Jesse, Sarah, Emily, Marshall, Faith, Grace and Caeleb. She is also survived by two sisters, Pat Giles of Danville and Sheila Craddock of Chatham.
Graveside service will be held Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA with the Rev. Frank Fuller officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence of her sister, Pat Giles, 120 Bent Creek Rd, Danville, VA.
