Sarah was the daughter of John B. Hardwicke and Martha Dews. She was a teacher in the Landon Conservatory in Dallas when she became engaged to Thomas T. Holloway, the widowed father of one of her students. They were married in Austin, Texas, on April 28, 1903. The ceremony was performed by Rev. George W. Truett of Dallas. Sarah and Thomas had two children: Thomas T. Holloway, Jr. and Sarah Ruth Holloway.

Sarah was a longtime member of the Standard Club, serving as president in 1934-1935. She taught a Bible Study class at First Baptist Church. She was active in many civic organizations. During World War II, she was corps director for the Dallas County Red Cross Chapter Nurses' Aides Corps. The corps had members serving in five Dallas hospitals.

Her brother, Abel Sinnette Hardwicke, was a lawyer in Dallas. He died in 1945 and is buried in Restland Memorial Park.

No marker or headstone was found for Sarah in 2014.
